The Renewable Energy Directive II (RED II) sets out the regulatory framework for promoting renewable energy in the European Union, including the use of biofuels. The Directive imposes sustainability requirements on biofuels to ensure they have lower GHG emissions than conventional fossil fuels and are produced in an environmentally sustainable way.

Our RED II compliance services for biofuels include:

1.      Sustainability certification: We provide support to biofuel producers in obtaining certification under recognized sustainability schemes such as ISCC EU, 2BSvs, etc. This includes guidance on certification requirements, data collection and management, and third-party auditing. For more details on these schemes please see below.

2.      GHG emissions calculations: We use internationally recognized methods and tools to calculate the GHG emissions associated with our clients’ biofuels, including emissions from feedstock production, transportation, and processing.

3.      RED II reporting: We assist our clients in preparing and submitting the required reports to the competent authorities in compliance with the RED II Directive. This includes guidance on reporting requirements, data management, and reporting software.

4.      Compliance monitoring and support: We provide ongoing support to help our clients ensure ongoing compliance with the RED II Directive and other relevant regulations, including monitoring of sustainability requirements and GHG emissions, and support in addressing any compliance issues that may arise.

Our sustainability management team offers certification services for various sustainability standards, including 2BSvs, ISCC EU, and ISCC PLUS. Here are some details about each certification service:

2BSvs:

The 2BSvs certification is a voluntary standard for sustainability in the bioenergy sector. It provides a framework for ensuring the sustainable production, processing, and trading of biomass and biofuels. Our certification services for 2BSvs include:

·       Gap analysis and readiness assessment: We help our clients assess their readiness for 2BSvs certification by conducting a gap analysis and identifying areas that need improvement.

·       Implementation support: We assist our clients in implementing the 2BSvs standard by providing guidance on documentation, procedures, and processes.

·       Certification pre-audit: We conduct a certification pre-audit to verify that our clients’ operations comply with the requirements of the 2BSvs standard.

·       Surveillance audit: We assist certified companies on the annual surveillance audits to ensure that our clients maintain their compliance with the 2BSvs standard.

·       Calculation of GHG emissions: We calculate the GHG emissions of biomass and biofuels using the methods and guidance specified by 2BSvs. This includes the use of relevant emissions factors and calculation methodologies, as well as consideration of the entire supply chain of the biomass and biofuels.

·       Review of GHG emissions reports: We also provide review services for GHG emissions reports prepared by our clients or third-party organizations. This includes reviewing the data and assumptions used in the calculations, verifying the accuracy of the calculations, and providing feedback on areas for improvement.

·       Continuous improvement support: We provide ongoing support to our clients to help them continuously improve their GHG emissions calculations and reporting processes. This includes providing guidance on best practices, assisting with data collection and management, and conducting training and capacity building activities.

ISCC EU and ISCC PLUS:

The International Sustainability and Carbon Certification (ISCC) is a global sustainability certification system for biomass and biofuels.

The ISCC EU certification is specifically for biofuels operations in the European Union.

On the other hand, ISCC PLUS deals with food, feed, chemicals and biofuels sustainability requirements. Our certification services for ISCC include:

·       Readiness assessment: We help our clients assess their readiness for ISCC EU certification by conducting a gap analysis and identifying areas that need improvement.

·       Implementation support: We assist our clients in implementing the ISCC standard by providing guidance on documentation, procedures, and processes.

·       Certification audit: We conduct a certification audit to verify that our clients’ operations comply with the requirements of the ISCC standard.

·       Surveillance audit: We assist certified companies on the annual surveillance audits to ensure that our clients maintain their compliance with the ISCC standard.

·       Calculation of GHG emissions: We calculate the GHG emissions of biomass and biofuels using the methods and guidance specified by ISCC.

Union Database Platform (UDB):

The UDB is a new platform that has been developed by the European Commission to facilitate the implementation of the Renewable Energy Directive (RED II) and the Fuel Quality Directive (FQD). It provides a central database for the certification of biofuels and other renewable fuels, as well as for tracking and reporting on their sustainability performance.

Our services related to the UDB include:

·       Data collection and management: We help our clients collect and manage the data required for certification and reporting under the UDB. This includes data related to the production and sustainability performance of biofuels, as well as other relevant information, such as feedstock and transport data.

·       Certification and compliance: We provide support for the certification of biofuels under the UDB, including the preparation and submission of relevant documentation and reports. We also help our clients ensure compliance with the sustainability criteria and reporting requirements specified by the UDB.

·       Reporting and monitoring: We help our clients prepare and submit the required reports and data to the UDB, as well as monitor their sustainability performance over time. We also provide guidance on best practices for sustainability reporting and performance improvement.

Our UDB services are designed to help our clients comply with the RED II and FQD requirements, as well as to improve their sustainability performance over time.

FQD reporting services in compliance with Law 4546/2018 and Directive 2015/652:

The Fuel Quality Directive (FQD) requires fuel suppliers to report on the greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions associated with their fuel products. In Greece, this requirement is implemented through Law 4546/2018, which sets out the reporting requirements and procedures for fuel suppliers operating in the country.

Our FQD reporting services include:

1.      Data collection and management: We assist our clients in collecting and managing the data required for FQD reporting. This includes data related to the production, transport, and distribution of fuel products, as well as GHG emissions data.

2.      GHG emissions calculations: We use internationally recognized methods and tools to calculate GHG emissions associated with our clients’ fuel products, including emissions from feedstock production, transportation, refining, and distribution.

3.      Reporting and compliance: We help our clients prepare and submit the required reports to the competent authorities in compliance with the reporting requirements set out in Law 4546/2018 and Directive 2015/652. We also provide guidance and support to help our clients ensure ongoing compliance with these regulations.

Our FQD reporting services are designed to help our clients meet their reporting obligations under Greek law and the FQD, as well as to improve their sustainability performance and reduce their GHG emissions over time.
